When Felicity and Christopher wrote to me about getting married in Santorini, I was probably as excited as they were. Destination weddings in Santorini are incredibly popular, and for good reason — the island is a dream. But what I discovered during a week there is that Santorini is so much more than the famous blue rooftops in Oia and Fira, the churches, and the spectacular caldera sunsets. I got to know the island’s quieter corners and hidden spots, and by the end it had completely grown on me. Fliss and Chris had everything to do with that — they’re warm, generous people, and I found a hundred new friends at their wedding. Being part of their journey in Santorini, at the very beginning of their life as a family, was something special.
Why Santorini?
In Fliss and Chris’s own words:
“We chose to get married in Santorini because we love holidays and travelling, and it was the best excuse to get everyone on holiday together. When we saw that Theros Wave Bar was offering a totally private beach location, it was a no-brainer. We flew out to see it and fell in love with the island, the people, the food — the list goes on. Most of our family and friends turned the wedding into a week’s holiday.”
“We are still on cloud nine and cannot believe how wonderful our wedding day was. We feel so lucky to have had such an incredible day and wouldn’t have changed anything, except if we could have slowed time to make the day last longer.”
Their ceremony was held at Venetsanos Winery, one of Santorini’s most scenic wedding venues, with sweeping views over the caldera. The reception followed at Theros Wave Bar, a completely private beach setting that gave the evening a relaxed, celebration-under-the-stars feeling. It’s a combination that works perfectly — the drama of the winery for the ceremony, and the intimacy of the beach for the party.
Santorini remains one of the most sought-after destinations for couples planning a wedding abroad. The light, the landscape, and the effortless beauty of the island make it an extraordinary place to celebrate — and with the right planning, it becomes not just a wedding day, but an unforgettable shared holiday for everyone involved.
