Photography came to me at a rather late age—I was already 26. Before that, I had spent my entire conscious life immersed in music, destined to become a composer.
And yet, when I received my master’s degree diploma at 26, I knew with absolute certainty that I would become a photographer instead. But the real turning point in my life happened in Spain, where I went to study for a year during my composition studies.
I was fortunate to meet an exceptional teacher and to be in an environment that didn’t judge or force you to walk a straight line, dictating how things “should” be. Alongside my work with sound, a desire to capture the beauty around me grew rapidly. I photographed my first couple—it was truly wonderful.
I was also lucky to start at a time when I had nothing to lose—a wonderful creative prerequisite. That was 2009.
When I returned home to Estonia, my world had changed. I knew exactly who I was meant to become. The decision was made.
From there, everything became simple.
Nature alone has never captivated me—but it does when there’s a person in it. That breathtaking feeling of being a tiny speck in vast wilderness is truly unique. I believe my visual dynamics reflect this: lots of clean space, room to breathe.
I started by photographing musicians—large and small ensembles, classical stars, fascinating characters—and I still do this as one of my great loves.
But I found my true path with another person in nature. Wherever it may be—even in San Francisco, Florence, or busy Positano—it’s always possible to find some nature.
At some point, I happened to visit Iceland, and it changed my life forever.
I was incredibly fortunate to meet my first couple to photograph in Iceland. Those images also changed my life. Back then, Iceland was still virtually empty—few tourists, and you could go anywhere freely. Yes, that has changed, but it remains wild, free, pure, and absolutely breathtaking.
I have been to some places in Iceland 50 times and still find it completely different from the previous 49.
But not only Iceland—photography has taken me to many countries. Yet Iceland remains my favorite place.
Why?
The crisp air, the sense of freedom, the wild weather, the world’s purest water, and Mother Nature throwing absolutely everything she has at you in Nordic conditions.
I have never felt more alive than when shivering in the Icelandic wind. Iceland also comes with a certain suffering factor—it’s not easy there, but that makes the experience all the more powerful.
You’ve reached the end of my little story, and I thank you, reader.
Perhaps you’ll find yourself in my photographs.
If so, write to me—no matter where you’re getting married, adventuring, or would like to focus on yourself, family, or a group, I’d be happy to join you.
Dream big!
I learned to create images for my clients with a deeper meaning. To be with those we like is enough. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing some extremely inspiring couples and families all over the world and getting to know my clients have been the most interesting aspect of my work what helps me to create those images. A rather small client roster allows me to focus on the very diverse needs of my clients and work personally.

“Mait was wonderful to work with – he was both our photographer and our tour guide. We would never have gotten half the amazing incredible shots we got without his expertise, knowledge, and eye for great places to shoot.”
“Imagine a photographer who doesn’t interrupt to ask for a pose, but instead creates the most precious private moments where you can simply get lost in each other and really land in the feelings of what the wedding day is about. This is how it was like to work with Mait.”
“We could see Iceland the way we couldn’t possibly imagine. He really made our day. We got along so well, he is very creative, professional, polite and friendly. It was definitely a fantastic photo shooting journey.”
